Yakuza 0 Review

Yakuza 0 Review

Spoilers

Have you ever just been walking down the street and felt like horribly beating the next person you make eye contact with. Well then you need this Yakuza 0 in your life. Because that's all this game is about.

From the start of the game, well after about 15 minutes of cut scenes, beating up everyone you come across is the focus of this game.

The thing I like about this game the most is the fact that, most beat-them up games don't try very hard to have a working story. But this one actually does, after being framed for the murder of a man you beat up you set off to prove you are actually innocent.
Being that this game is set in the 80s and the Japanese are known for there large since of honor and morals, Kazuma Kiryu (the main character) fights to free himself from the Yakuza (Japanese for gang). Once he is no longer associated with them he then sets out to show his former boss he is not the man who has dishonored the clan.

Honestly that's all the story you need right there. That's deep enough to make you feel respect for Kiryu, and simple enough to make the story work. But it doesn't end there, by playing the GE you unveil a great set of characters who almost all push the story in some way.
But i digress, back to beating the crud out of people. I personally didn't beat the game but I can tell you I do wish I did. I say this because as you play and explore the map you met different people and Kiryu has the ability to watch a person fight then learn there style. So after enough exploration you learn tons of new styles. All I would say are worth learning.
This review will be short because there isn't much to say about such a simple product and I mean that in the best of ways, I just want to beat the crap out of people plan and simple and this game does that all to well.

Spoilers

The Dark Souls clone. A statement I actually don't agree with. When you play this game for about the first few moments you do expect a Dark Souls type of game. But this game largely creates its own name and will in more than one way, blow your mind.

The Enemies - In dark souls almost every fight can feel like a boss fight. Every time the game shows you a new thing you haven't killed you the fear in your heart builds up with the thought of how is it going to beat the living crap out of me. Now Nioh on the other hand, small enemies feel like exactly that, small now don't get the wrong idea the fear of death is still all to real but small fry feel like small fry and mini bosses feel like mini bosses.

Bosses - in my play through each boss didn't give me to much trouble, only dieing around 2 maybe 3 times per boss. And normally I died because I did something foolish or went balls deep and I shouldn't have. This is something I personally like. Its enjoyable actually having to think about how to fight my boss, not just DPS them down when they are left open.

Over all the game-play and fighting is very agreeable. Having a high, low, and mid stance actually can make a big difference in game play. In a RPG learning how your opponents fight and move is always a big thing. But having to learn each of there stances in mid fight, well that just adds a new dynamic to the whole thing. Even being at the end of the game there are small fry that still get me because I have yet to master there stances and the ins and outs of each. Also adding to that, knowing that every game is just a compilation of an A.I. it's always hard to not see it as them just following programming. But I've come to find that replying parts or levels enemies don't always attack the same way at all. Which is refreshing helps change the game up a great deal.
Something that also really catches my eye with this game isn't even an in game fact, but it's that the game is actually based on real events and people. That's always nice to see a world unfold to find out the folds you are watching are real folds someone in the world felt.
